THE PURPOSE OF ROLO IN LAND-BASED WORK
We use ROLO to promote consistent standards in health, safety, and environmental awareness across land-based roles. The scheme, created by the British Association of Landscape Industries, supports responsible working practices by encouraging structured training and documented worker competence. ROLO helps employers maintain accountability and supports individuals in understanding the responsibilities linked to land-based operations. This foundation improves workplace awareness and strengthens safe decision-making, helping workers carry out tasks with confidence and clarity.

THE ROLE OF ROLO IN MEETING INDUSTRY EXPECTATIONS
We deliver ROLO training to support employers in meeting duty-of-care expectations outlined by recognised industry bodies. The Department of Trade & Industry advises that organisations maintain trained personnel who understand workplace hazards and essential safety responsibilities. ROLO aligns with this requirement through a structured framework recognised by Build UK. The course reinforces organisational compliance, strengthens safety culture, and supports documented competency for workers engaged in land-based tasks. This approach promotes responsible behaviour across varied operational environments.

ROLO TRAINING LEVELS
We offer structured ROLO Operative, Supervisor, and Manager routes to support skill development within land-based industries. Operative training introduces essential safety concepts, while Supervisor and Manager pathways provide development opportunities for experienced personnel managing tasks and teams. Each level contributes to recognised LISS/CSCS card requirements and reinforces awareness of hazards, regulations, and workplace responsibilities. At Countryside Training & Tree Management Ltd, we guide individuals toward the correct course level to match professional roles and operational demands. Please note: The correct level ROLO course will be a requirement for all Supervisor and Manager level cards.
COURSE DELIVERY FORMATS AND LEARNING STRUCTURE
We deliver ROLO courses through a combination of online elements and instructor-led sessions, depending on the level selected. Operative courses run face-to-face or online, while Supervisor and Manager pathways include mandatory e-learning before continuing to tutor-led components. Refresher options follow a similar blended approach. All assessments take place online to ensure a consistent evaluation process. Countryside Training & Tree Management Ltd supports each learner through these steps to create an organised and accessible training experience.
ROLO CERTIFICATE DURATION AND RENEWAL GUIDANCE
We assist learners in understanding ROLO certificate validity when preparing for LISS/CSCS SmartCard requirements. A ROLO certificate remains valid for five years, and the course must be completed within two years before applying for a SmartCard. Renewal requires completing the appropriate refresher course before expiry to maintain uninterrupted recognition. This structure encourages individuals to refresh their knowledge at appropriate intervals. We support participants through each certification stage to help them meet industry expectations with confidence. We also offer training for small machines and mobile elevated work platforms.
